 

#  Cynthia Dwork wins National Medal of Science!

Professor Cynthia Dwork received the [National Medal of Science](https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2025/01/03/president-biden-honors-nations-leading-scientists-technologists-and-innovators/) at the White House on January 3.

Cynthia was cited for “visionary contributions to the field of computer science and secure public-key cryptography” and how her “innovative research, analyses, and discoveries on differential privacy, fairness in algorithms, and statistical validity in adaptive data analysis help guide cutting-edge technologies across modern society and play a critical role in advancing the global public good.”

Only a handful of computer scientists have received this honor, with the most recent being in 2007. Cynthia among only 37 Harvard faculty members to have ever received the medal.
